The Future Of Beer (well the keg anyway...)
The recent purchase of Anheiser-Busch by InBev raises some interesting questions for the future of Beer and the Party Fridge. What changes will InBev have on this American icon and what will it mean for... the Party Fridges (new and old). In recent years several breweries have done some very interesting things in order to not only promote their brands but to truly innovate around their product and how it gets to their customers. Guiness (the author's favorite BTW) not only pioneered their Rocket Widget but have recently introduced their Surge system for recreating the famous draft experience. These innovations give the packaging a lot more responsibility for creating (recreating?) the draft experience. So that leaves the question of what's happening with kegs? For one thing kegs are getting smaller. This raises new hope for those who enjoy their beer, in their home, and like variety! The Krups/Heineken BeerTender is a sort of mini-kegerator for just 5lt kegs. This form factor is gaining popularity with both larger brewers, but smaller breweries as well. It's small size gives the average consumer the same great taste and draft experience, but in smaller volumes. It's this new smaller keg that may find a home in my personal Party Fridge as it may give me the chance to actually dispense a Black and Tans without having to invite everyone I know over to finish two kegs off! What else is going on out folks? Anyone put a 5lt dispensing system in their Party Fridge?
